The Theatre Arts Guild at GPC presents Gilbert and Sullivan's Japanese-themed comic operetta, The Mikado, in the Cole Auditorium, Fine Arts Building on the Clarkston campus, Feb. 1- 10.

The play, directed by Sally J. Robertson, with music conducted by Susan J. McEwen, takes place in the town of Titipu, where the local government has fallen into the hands of two dubious characters; Pooh-Bah and Ko-Ko, the executioner. A young man arrives, who-unknown to most-is the son of the Emperor Mikado, and is fleeing an arranged marriage to the elderly Katisha, but falls for the beautiful Yum-Yum, Ko-Ko's fiancĂ©e. When the Mikado arrives, thirsty for execution, Ko-Ko thinks he has the perfect plan… until Katisha turns up, bent on revenge.

GPC students, faculty and staff will be on stage, behind the stage, and responsible for the stage; GPC visual arts students hand-painted the kimonos designed by Joanna Schmink, Costume Coordinator at The Atlanta Opera, who also designed the set which GPC Technical Projects Manager, Lizz Dorsey, constructed.

Cole Auditorium Manager Jennifer
Jenkins will be shedding light (as the lighting designer) on student actors Jeffrey David Gibb, Marcus Megahee, Lindsey Martin, Ava Thibodeau, GPC alumnus Matthew Carter and Aaron Gotlieb, and chorus members Ebony Collier, Judit Llorens, Barna Lumpkin Jr., William Houston West and alumnus Jay Aiken. GPC staff members Richard Beaubien and Marsha Powell-Forbragd will also lend their voices to the chorus.
